Integrating Mind and Body for a Healthy Life
Our first few sessions will involve an evaluation of your symptoms, problems and goals, as well as provide an opportunity for both of us to decide if the process will be a good fit for your needs. We will use this time collaboratively to develop a way forward and to agree upon a treatment plan.
Our complicated lives today create multiple sources of potential stress. Daily hassles, medical illness or surgery, workplace pressures, and family issues all can lead to breakdowns in physical and emotional health. Fortunately, new scientific research is providing a greater understanding of the biological underpinnings of psychological health and illness. This has led to new therapeutic approaches that incorporate an understanding of the mind-body connection in healing.
Therapy is a process of understanding and change that takes place through discussion. My approach is very interactive. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy to teach skills such as Mindful Awareness to help develop new ways of seeing and approaching stressful situations and relationships. These skills can improve coping, decrease stress, quiet the body, enhance wellness, and help you to pursue what matters to you.
There are certain challenges that are unique to intimate relationships. Many couples benefit from therapy at some point in their relationship as a way to enhance their connection, deal with significant conflict or distress, or work through sexual problems. I work extensively with couples experiencing relationship and sexual problems and can help you and your partner understand and enhance your approaches to relationships and conflict.
Happiness can be achieved through the systematic training of our hearts and minds; through reshaping our attitudes and outlook.
The Dahli Lama
Therapy at its best is an opportunity for healing and insight. At a practical level, it involves a commitment of time, money and energy, and it is important that you feel comfortable working with your therapist. I offer a free 10 minute phone consultation to determine if we might work well together and to give you a chance to ask me any questions you may have.
